How to use Prempro
Prempro is very easy to use! Simply take one tablet daily, at the same time each day.
It is always important to follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider and not to exceed the recommended dosage. If you miss a dosage, take the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at one time.
Prempro Side Effects
While Prempro can provide significant benefits, it may also cause certain side effects. Common side effects may include breast tenderness, headache, nausea, bloating, fluid retention, vaginal bleeding, and mood changes. Contact your healthcare provider if these side effects persist or worsen.
Serious side effects are rare but can include an increased risk of blood clots, stroke, heart attack, and certain types of cancer. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience:
- Jaw or shoulder pain, chest pain or pressure, nausea, sweating
- Slurred speech, sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), sudden severe headache, problems with vision or balance
- Stabbing chest pain, sudden vision loss, feeling short of breath, coughing up blood, pain or warmth in one or both legs
- Swelling or tenderness in your stomach
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
- Unusual behavior, memory problems, confusion
- Pelvic pain, unusual vaginal bleeding
- A lump in your breast
- Unusual vaginal bleeding

Prempro Contraindications
There are certain contraindications or situations where the use of Prempro may not be recommended.
- Known or suspected pregnancy: Prempro should not be used if a woman is pregnant or suspects she may be pregnant. These medications, in menopausal doses, can not be used for birth control so there may still be a risk of pregnancy. Speak with your healthcare provider about whether you need reliable contraception.
- History of blood clots: Women with a history of blood clots in the legs (deep vein thrombosis) or lungs (pulmonary embolism) should avoid using Prempro. The medication can increase the risk of blood clot formation, which can be life-threatening.
- History of heart attack or stroke: Women with a history of heart attack or stroke should generally avoid using Prempro. The medication can increase the risk of cardiovascular events in individuals with a history of these conditions.
- Liver disease: Severe liver disease or liver tumors are contraindications for the use of all hormones, including conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone. This medication is metabolized in the liver, and liver dysfunction can affect their clearance from the body and increase the risk of adverse effects.
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure: Women with uncontrolled high blood pressure should be cautious when using Prempro since it can increase blood pressure. Individuals with pre-existing hypertension may experience further elevation of blood pressure.
- Breast cancer or other hormone-sensitive cancers: Women with a history of breast cancer or other hormone-sensitive cancers should generally avoid using hormones containing medications. They can potentially stimulate the growth of hormone-sensitive tumors.
